Welcome to the NZ MG VA enthusiasts website

This is a site brought to you by a NZ owner of a 1937 MG VA Drop Head Coupe (early wet clutch type) who wishes to share what he has learned over the years restoring his classic car from a bare chassis.  This site contains useful information posts on restoring components, a searchable online parts database and in time, perhaps some photos.

MG produced full 4 seater cars between 1936 and 1939.  They are the MG SA, VA and WA.   Within the MG community, they are known as SVW cars and have a Register under the UK MG Car Club, I encourge owners to join http://www.mgcc.co.uk/svw-register/.

MG VA body styles

  • Saloon – 4 door saloon body produced by MG
  • Tourer – a 2 door open car
  • Drop Head Coupe – a 2 door folding head foursome produced by Tickford at Newport Pagnell

The site also has a digital record of original part numbers, descriptions and drawings for each of the body styles of the MG VA.  These details have been taken from the MG Publication “The Service Parts List for the MG 1½ Litre (VA Type)” dated November 1937, Revised July 1939, revised September 1946.  This section can be found in the section of the site “Parts Database”.

My MGVA was originally sold by Knott Brothers in Bournemouth, the photo below is probably of their stand at the British International Motor Show at Olympia between 1905-1936.
